Why are some payment reasons not available for my destination country?

When creating a payment, you are required to select or enter a Payment Reason. The options available vary depending on the destination country and currency of your payment. This is reflects regulatory and banking requirements for international transfers.

OFX uses two different sets of payment reasons:

Country-Specific List (6 special destinations)

For payments to the following six destinations, the dropdown is populated with a country-specific approved list instead of the default list. This is required by local banking and regulatory authorities:

Note: If the country-specific list is unavailable for any reason, the default list will be shown instead.

India (INR) — Additional Filtering

For payments to India in INR, two additional filters are applied before the dropdown is displayed:

Family Maintenance is always removed — this is a personal/P2P reason and is not valid for business payments to India.
If the recipient's bank is HDFC, additional payment reasons are removed, as HDFC does not accept these for incoming international transfers.

This is intentional and not a system error.

What if my payment reason is not listed?

Select "Other" — this reveals a free-text box where you can type a custom description.

⚠️ Important: Using vague descriptions such as "Other" or "N/A" may result in payment delays or holds. Provide a clear and specific description.

Batch Payment Users

If you submit payments via a CSV or batch file, there is no dropdown. You must type the acceptable payment reason or the payment reason code manually. The value must exactly match one of the accepted descriptions below.
